Campaign Marks Company’s 15th Year Supporting Hunger Relief

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 10, 2018-- In May and June, employees at Rent-A-Center, Inc. came together to support North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) through a multi-pronged hunger relief campaign, Fighting Hunger in Our Own Backyard. Employees raised $33,952; coupled with a $50,000 corporate match, the campaign provided an $83,952 donation and additional support for NTFB.

Employees from Rent-A-Center’s corporate headquarters volunteered 619 hours at Frisco Family Services, a partner agency of the North Texas Food Bank, and a month-long canned food drive garnered 1,715 pounds of food that will provide 1,429 meals to hungry North Texans. Fundraising activities included department-sponsored meal sales, raffles items and games for employees to enjoy, including grilled burgers, snoballs, ladderball and a rubber chicken toss.

Rent-A-Center proudly presented its check to NTFB in a closing ceremony at the Field Support Center in Plano, Texas, in June. Rent-A-Center CEO Mitch Fadel spoke to the company’s 15-year-long partnership between RAC and NTFB, through which Rent-A-Center has raised over $1 million for hunger relief efforts in North Texas.

“It’s important we put our company’s values into action by supporting causes that help families thrive,” said Fadel. “Food insecurity often serves as a barrier to other opportunities. At Rent-A-Center, we take pride in supporting hunger relief organizations such as the North Texas Food Bank that help empower families to reach their potential.”

NTFB representatives, including CEO Trisha Cunningham, were on hand to accept the check.

“Our partners at Rent-A-Center are champions of our vision to create a hunger-free, healthy North Texas,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “We know that there are children, families and seniors who don’t know where their next meal will come from. Thanks to generous donors like Rent-A-Center, these hungry neighbors can turn to the North Texas Food Bank and our partners during their time of need. As we work our way to closing the current meal gap and providing 92 million meals by 2025, we know it is partners like Rent-A-Center who will help us meet this goal. To the entire team, we thank you for your commitment to feeding our hungry neighbors!”

The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a top-ranked nonprofit hunger-relief organization that distributes donated, purchased and prepared foods through a network of more than 200 Partner Agencies in 13 counties.
